Open Season

If September was like training camp, this week marks the season opener of the annual deluge of game releases….Dead Space, Fable 2, Fallout 3–back to back to back. There’s also SoCom, Saints Row 2, and Little Big Planet, the latter of which I already gnashed my teeth at with jealousy last week.
I spent this weekend further chipping away at Tales of Vesperia’s campaign. I’ve definitely enjoyed it, but once again, I just don’t see how I’m ever going to finish this 40-60 hour epic.
The rest of my time was spent on Fable II pub games. I’m all set and ready for whatever Peter Molyneux can throw at me. I’ve got one profile with over a million gold and every item. However that person is a cheat and a crook, having spent most of his time exploiting the casino’s weaknesses. I’ve heard that there might be repercussions for any Fable II hero that merges his identity with this character. I’m definitely curious.
I’ve also got a second character who has most of the items that I care about, plus a more modest some of cash. I think I’m pretty much done preplaying for money/items at this point. I’ve got bigger fish to fry.
One of those fish is my friend Jessica. She informed me yesterday that she has surpassed my proud score of 19 million points in pacifism in Geometry Wars 2, a bizarre state of reality that will soon be rectified.
And finally, the biggest news of the week for me–I think I’m done with the Wii. I simply don’t play it anymore–I let a friend borrow it for a month and didn’t even notice that it was gone. The only time I use it is at family functions and at Meta Cafe, once a month. Our last one was two weeks ago, and I havn’t even set it back up here at home. Add to that Nintendo’s abysmal holiday release schedule this year (Wii music? no thanks), and the writing’s on the wall.
On the other hand, I’d still like to have it available for church events, and the youth group is looking to get a Wii. Solution! I talked today to my friend Jason, who also happens to be the youth pastor, and we worked out a deal to sell the Wii, all it’s peripherals and 3 games to them.
What am I going to use that cash to buy? Why, a PS3 and Little Big Planet of course. Nintendo’s been failing to deliver truly engaging content–the potential’s there, but my interest isn’t anymore. It’s not that I don’t like the Wii, but like I said…I can’t own all three.

Now I’m truly jealous. Little big planet sounds like a hoot
All my Wii games are currently borrowed out since I got my 360. I don’t think my Wii has been on since. I should try selling it again.

Good choice. I’ll be anxious to see what you think of your PS3 games. I wouldn’t buy one now, but I’d like to have one in addition to my 360 in a couple years (when more quality games are out on the PS3).
I would have cheated with a Pub Games character if I had caught onto it quick enough. Be sure to let me know what terrible thing Molyneux does to your character.

o noes for the Wii!!! but i must say i’ve been contemplating the same thing… i hear there may be another supply shortage this year so depending on the economic crisis.. i may try and unload it then.
My checking account sure is going to take a beating with all these games coming out! I’m relaly excited for dead space as i havent really played a new sci-fi horror game in ages… Fallout for its shear awesome ness has me giddier then a school girl and Fable II… i just cant wait although i couldnt bring myself to dredge through the pub games so my character will be piss poor! not worried though as i’m sure 90% of all characters will be too!

I just started playing Dead Space last night, and it’s awesome. Even Bioshock didn’t have a world this vivid. It feels like playing a Hollywood film. So far, this is definitely the best horror game I’ve ever played.
But I’ve been more in the mood for light entertainment, so I spent more time with Saints Row 2 yesterday. That one’s also a lot of fun. They’ve add several improvements, though the overall feel is about the same as the original.
As much as I’m enjoying those two games, and I really am, I’m still wishing I had Fable 2 already.
