I’m Back

I spent two days up in the great white north of Canada, relaxing in a cottage with Rachel and Dave and Danielle. We brought the Wii along, and spent some of our time playing Mario Kart as well as Boom Blox.
I’m starting to get nervous about everyone’s skills at Mario Kart. There were several times where I was being given intense competition. This wouldn’t be any big deal except for the substantially longer time I’ve been playing games like Mario Kart. The biggest thing for Dave and Danielle is consistently. There are times that I can’t catch up to Dave, and Danielle is right behind me in 3rd, and then there are times when they’re back in 6th and 7th. They’re all getting pretty good though.
I’m now playing catch up at work, but I made sure to get up this morning and download Penny Arcade Adventures, Episode 1. I picked it up on XBLA as opposed to on Greenhouse, not really for any reason besides I’m doing most of my gaming on consoles (besides TF2) these days. It’s not for everyone, but if you like the strip, you’ll like the game. And it’s got a turn based RPG mechanic for leveling and combat, which is a cool throw back.
I spent about an hour this morning wading into this new RPG universe, and it was a treat. After the first “tutorial” level, the combat really ramps up and it becomes difficult to survive unless you use your items and special skills correctly. The trade off for this is if a character K.O.’s, they’re back with full health for the next battle, so the main thing is avoid a party K.O.
If you don’t like Mike and Jerry’s humor though, you probably won’t like the game, as there’s a lot of fan service and homage going on. But if you do like it, give it a try.
There’s a lot going on for me this week work wise and music wise, but I’ll try to post every day the rest of this week. Hope you’re having a good one!

I downloaded that game the other day. I never read the strip, and was really just trying the game out like I do a lot of XBLA games… just for the hell of it. But the humor immediately grabbed…. “sinister” mailboxes, robots that hump fruit, and learning the right way to speak to a cat. I bought it largely because this is a game that others could enjoy watching me play.
By the way, be sure to check this out. It’s a video of one of IGN’s writers building his first creature in the Spore creature editor demo. If you didn’t already know, the demo will be released June 17th, with a free version (25% of options) and a full version for 10 bucks.
Spore is still my most anticipated game of the year… though LOTR: Conquest (Star Wars: Battlefront in a LOTR setting) could knock it off that pedestal if it comes out this year.
