Penny Arcade Smorgasborg

Just a heads up that if you’re interested in attending the biggest gaming conference in this hemisphere, that early bird registration ends on Monday.  You can get tickets here.  I recently convinced my wife to let me return to PAX, and I can tell you from last year that if you go, you won’t regret it.

PAX is the conference for us normal folks, the people who buy and play games.  Mike and Jerry (and their staff) put on an amazing weekend, and this year they’re expecting upwards of 50,000 people.  It’s going to be unreal.  This year I’m going with Colin and Zoe, and I’m already making arrangements to meet up with some friends I made last year.  I hadn’t officially said anything about it on the blog, so I just wanted to state that I am indeed going again.

Secondly, Hothead just announced that Penny Arcade Adventures: On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness will be priced at 19.95 across all platforms, including digital download services like Steam and Xbox Live.

Some are saying that it’s pretty pricey for downloadable content, even for an episodic game.  After seeing it at PAX, I’d probably pay 30 for it, but I’m a fan, so that’s me.  If it launches simultaneously on Steam and Live, I’ll probably do Live since I’ll get achievements.  But if it comes out first on PC (as the Hothead Devs I talked to at PAX claimed), then I probably won’t be able to wait.

My question to you is:  Does the price point discourage you from buying the game? Or do you think it’s a fair ask for episodic content?
