Devil May Cry 4, The Club, and Turning Point–three demos to look at
The Devil May Cry 4 Demo is up on live, so if that’s your bag, you’ll definitely want to check it out. I haven’t played it yet, but imagine my surprise yesterday to find that Turning Point, the game I had highlighted on Monday, had a demo up on Live on Tuesday. I gave it a play through, and my first impression of the game was about par for the course. It’s a solid game, and the concept is great–its overall look reminds me of the Godfather game–but in the whole gambit of first person shooters, the game play seems a little slow and clunky. I can imagine playing through the single player campaign, but I’m not convinced about its multiplayer potential.
The other demo on Live on Tuesday was the Club, a game who’s title makes it sound way too cool for its own good. The basic concept is you get dropped into an arena and then are awarded points for how quickly and stylishly you kill everyone else in the arena.
You also get combos for combining your best kills, like some sort of Tony Hawk Assassin. There are people out there who will love this game–people who get enjoyment out of the sort of twitchy, perfect-every-possible-button-press-to-get-the-fastest-time-and-highest-score type of game play in which you memorize the position of every enemy and that can manifest itself online and in the darkest corners of the “speed run” crowd. Which is cool and all, but not my bag. The presentation of the demo was way more polished though, and the characters looked very interesting (though you could only actually play one during the demo).
I picked up Fifa 08 and No More Heroes yesterday, and I’ll be putting up my first impressions of the latter soon. I’m quite pleased so far though.
