My Absence This Week

Hello all–

I wanted to let you know that yes, I am still alive and kicking, and tell you where I’ve been since Friday.  I have two herniated discs in my lower back that have been acting up for the last five or so years.  It’s become a chronic condition, but I manage it most of the time.  However, on Sunday, I woke up and found that I couldn’t bend over to put on my socks.  This has happened once or twice before, and I’ve seen neurosurgery specialists before as well as physical therapists, and the consensus is until it becomes constant, the best course of treatment is pain management and PT, which is all good, except during these flare ups.

Basically, during these episodes I have a really hard time sitting down for longer than five minutes without feeling like someone is stabbing me with knives all down my legs.  It’s the sitting position that is the worst, and that means the computer is hard to be at.

So, I’ve been taking it easy the last couple of days, trying to stay out of trouble and gaming as much as I can.  I felt pretty good this morning, so I figured I’d come on and update you all.

Thanks for your support of the blog and for participating as gamers.  I’ll be up and going again very soon.

  1. Sorry to hear about your back problems, Brian. While I don’t have any experience with them myself, I’ve got a good friend that went through something similar. He tried everything when the pain flared up. Doctors, chiropractors, pain meds. The only thing that ever worked (and worked well, to hear him talk about it) was acupuncture/acupressure. He’s a cynical Westerner, too, but swears by the treatment. Something to think about if you get desperate.
