Star Trek Online, the BBFC Admits It Has Nothing, and Spying On Your Friends’ Friends

You guys knew that there was a Star Trek MMO in the works, right?  I’ve always been bigger on Star Wars then Star Trek, but with an IP this big, you can’t help but keep an eye on the process.

Well, it seems that since Perpetual came under new management, that the game has seen a philosophy shift to be a “more casual” experience, possibly even dropping the subscription model in favor of the micro-transaction, “pay for upgradables” model.

Rumor has it that not all the devs are happy with this forced change of direction  If you ask me, it can’t possibly bode well for the game.  There’s almost nothing as hardcore as Trekkers (did I use the most current pc term there? or is it Trekkies?), and turning their precious IP into a casual, watered down experience is bound to result in an epic fail.  jmho.

In the hell freezing over category, we have the news that the BBFC has admitted that there is no evidence connecting video games and violence.  Before you get too excited, they qualify that statement by saying that it’s merely a matter of time before hard evidence presents itself, but I think it’s a refreshing bit of honesty from a government organization.  You keep waiting for that evidence, guys…

Finally, the “fall” update of Xbox Live is ready to launch in…um…December, and one of the main features is the ability to extend your friends network by looking at the friends list of your friends.  Of course, it will all be able to be turned off if you’d rather have privacy, but I think it’s a really neat feature, and will help with interconnectivity.  Cheers Microsoft!

Hope Tuesday is a fantastic day for you and yours…only three more days till the weekend! ;)
