Call of Duty 4 Impressions

Well, I already broke my promise.  12 hour work days will do that.  But you were all still in my thoughts, weekend gamers.  Thanks for continuing the discussion while I was away.

So I’ve spent some time with CoD: 4’s campaign, and can say that it’s engaging, although a bit on the short side.  The game has a fluidity of graphics and controls that mesh well together, creating an engrossing experience.  I found myself wanting to scoot up closer to the screen, so that I could take in the lush scenery in all it’s anti-aliased glory.

It’s faster than Halo as far as action, and it presents a gritty realism that you’ll either prefer, or you won’t.  Head shots are far more deadly than they would be even for the Master Chief, which makes the game feel kind of hybrid between our traditional FPS’s and a squad based shooter, with plenty of cover and nightvision action.

Really, I’m just excited to get into the multiplayer realm, where the word is that you can level up to receive new skills and weapon upgrades, and even custom create your own class.  I’m a sucker for faux-rpg elements, so I can’t wait to see how that plays out.  I’m only on after eleven right though, so if you’d like a game, look for me then.
